Upon arrival you cannot fail to be impressed by the imposing lobby area, smiling faces and handsome staff attire. We arrived early to drop off our bags and was super surprised and grateful to be checked in late morning as the room was ready. However, reception staff were not super friendly, it seemed they were confused whether I was a walk-in or had a booking (which I had from two months earlier, surely the system would show this..)? We booked a bay facing Sunset Suite, super clean if a little aged room, kinda disappointed none of the windows opened, would have liked some morning fresh air, but thats the style I suppose, no big deal. We explored the hotel which is unexpectedly a lot bigger than you might expect, ie.a 1000 seater ballroom, other reception rooms, small and large. Dinner was at 7pm in the Champagne Room, and went for a pre drink in the lobby Tap Room, had a lovely G&T and Mocktail, signed the p700 to my room, then upon leaving confusion again by the multiple bar staff and supervisor. Apparently I had not left a security deposit at check in from which to draw so was told the drinks could not be charged to the room. It was a bit embarrassing, a hotel not accepting a room charge? I politely said we were not asked for a deposit nor were we aware of such a policy and was a bit late to be asking. Not wanting to discuss further we politely advised we were going to dinner and simply to charge the bill to the room (which on check out, was registered, we paid, simple). The male bar supervisor seemed frustrated by this, and was very close to spoiling an otherwise nice bar experience. Dinner at the Champagne Room was a joy, lovely staff, food, service and ambience, the icing on the cake was to be sung 'happy birthday' by 6-8 restaurant staff. Upon bill arrival, we were given an unexpected 20% promotion discount too, so further 'icing' there too. We truly had a lovely stay, ask for a Heritage Museum tour, the OJT young lady in the traditional Philippine dress was super professional and informative. Would we go back, definitely, maybe try the Chinese Restaurant next time, Red Jade!

Good room, clean and well maintained despite the age. Their breakfast and dinner menu was great. Security also on point. and here is the thing: When we want to claim or luggage after checkout, I had problem with the person in charge in main entrance We arrived by car, we stop our car near the lobby. One of the bellboy asked us, and we explained that we just want to claim our luggage. He guide us inside the hotel, and took our luggage tag to concierge. Not a single explanation that we can't park our car there. Even the security staff didn't bother. While waiting for concierge staff to find our luggage, I send my wife back to our car to look after our personal belonging. It was only around 2/3 minutes after we get off from our car. One old man with black uniform (I suppose he is responsible for lobby area) explained to my wife, who isn't even driving the car with loud voice, and pointing with his finger that we couldn't park there. And when I went back with the bellboy, loading the luggage (around 5 mins after I got off from my car). He again raising his voice. I thought there is a misunderstanding, since there is no explanation in advance (before i got off from my car), but it seems he wouldn't listen my explanation anyway. Since I need to catch my flight, I went up quickly, avoiding any confrontation. But still this old man raising his voices to me, and even after that shooing other car in a rude way. If this is his normal way to talk and explaining rules to guests, I don't know why he is in charge of that position. I think there is better way to explain misunderstanding politely. * One more thing the lobby not even busy at that time. If lobby drop off-drop in is their main concern, let me say we had worst case scenario when we checked in the day before because of hotel event and we ended up wait around 10 mins to get to lobby from security checkpoint. It's so pity that I have to give low rates for staff, despite all of the effort and excellence service of bellboy, F.O, concierge, and restaurant staff.

Our stay at this 5-star hotel was very good. I was hoping that breakfast selections were heated accordingly. It’s really the Breakfast buffet that affected my decision. It could have been an excellent stay for us. The room was massive and the bathroom was amazing, particularly the rainfall shower. Also, as a fitness enthusiast, the gym equipments are almost complete and I enjoyed my workout. We were also disappointed when you ran out of towels when we planned to go for a swim. Nonetheless, all the staff were very excellent at their job including the housekeeping team! Kudos to all of your staff!

Loved The Manila Hotel and our short stay over the Easter weekend. Affordable luxury with old world vibes is how we would describe our experience. Here’s why: 1. Service. Everyone is super friendly, poised and polite. First impressions count and starts with someone opening the doors with warm greetings. Good looks and smart uniforms definitely elevated moods. 2. Location. We were warned about traffic jams but did not think it was a major concern like Bangkok. The airport pickup is under 30mins and under 350-400 pesos (Easter weekend). Ask for higher floor rooms, at least 12 or above, facing Intramuros for panoramic views of the Intramuros, Baluarte San Diego and Rizal Park, all within walking distance of under 10-12 mins. 3. Breakfast. Dress code is enforced. No singlets but flip flops allowed. Definitely one of the best breakfast spread. They are meat lovers and we loved how the meats were prepared, especially pork. Fruits are fresh and sweet too, especially papaya, bananas and pineapples. Be prepared for long queues at peak hours. If you show up at peak hours, the overflow will cause them to lead you to Red Jade Chinese restaurant, where variety is severely limited with incessant Chinese ding-dong songs in the morning. Do try the yam-flavoured beancurd, Chinese pork ribs and double expressos. 4. Room. Tad old, everything works. The housekeeping had a few hiccups as face towels, shower gel and lotion might not give daily. Minor inconveniences which did not scar. You might want to ask for more chocolates during the turn-down service. Absolutely yummy and nicely packaged. 5. Ambience. The lobby was a tad noisy during Easter. If quieter, do stay for a drink and enjoy the grand piano. There was a band playing tunes of evergreens on Easter Sunday which was a nice touch. Across the aisle, a couple celebrated 50th wedding anniv so you can imagine the special place this hotel has for Manila.
